Open Day and Organic Tasting

On Friday 4th September and Saturday 5th September we see the welcome return of our Open Day and Organic Tasting at Cotesbach, this year there will be a larger range of things to see and do, with we hope something for everyone. We are combining the tranquility of the garden, the taste of organic, the culture of art and stained glass with the awesome power of an engine from the second world war combined with a farm walk if you have the energy. Now is your chance. Never has a day been so diverse, something for everyone and free admission.

Garden Tours

As in previous years the kitchen garden will be open with Phil the resident expert Organic grower giving free guided tours. Come and see heritage vegetables, including more than a dozen varieties of tomatoes, and the three sisters 'squashes, sweetcorn and clover in perfect harmony .  Tours will run at about 11, 12, 2 & 4 for the garden.

As always Phil has many tips on growing and getting the most from your plot.

Organic Tastings

There will be lots to try and sample, so you can try before you buy. This year in addition to our old friend the Godminster vintage cheddar we also have cheese from Greens of Glastonbury. You can try the chocolate courgette cake and the best in dried apricots. There will of course be many other bits to taste, the best I think will be those fresh from the garden.

We still have some free Energy Saving light bulbs to give away, so don’t forget to pick up a pack.

Blue Butterfly Glass

Our next door neighbour Ellie will have on display a great range of handcrafted stained glass.

Blue Butterfly Glass is a small stained glass business that can supply you with that unique stained glass window or an original, hand crafted glass present. Ellie has a wide range products to suit all ages, occasions, and pocket. Ellie can design and make something especially for you so please ask.

Cotesbach Farm Walks

The farm consists of 22ha arable and grazing land in the Natural England Countryside Stewardship Scheme.  It will be entering an organic conversion  period in autumn 2009.  Groups of 6-20 welcome, walks take 2 hours, pre-booking essential.

Contact: Sophy on 01455-552697.  BOOK YOUR FARM WALK FOR 5th SEPTEMBER NOW!

Merlin Engine

On Saturday the resident Merlin Engine will have an outing, the first for a couple of months. The running Merlin is always a bit of fun and of course it is an important part of our history. Widely considered to be among the most successful engines produced during World War II, Merlin engines were also used in Hurricanes, Wellingtons, Defiants, Lancasters, Halifaxes, Mustangs and Mosquitos.

To see the Merlin in action you will need to be at Cotesbach at 11:45 for a 12:00 running.

Mary Herbert

Since the last Open day Mary Herbert has moved her studio to Cotesbach. Mary specialises in pastel portraits, she particularly loves to paint animals, especially horses and dogs, and is always happy to consider commissioned portrait work of any animal or person.

Mary will have an Open Studio on both days.

Organic Butcher

In a couple of weeks time Jason will be opening his Organic Butchers shop in the Stable Yard here at Cotesbach. So the Open Day is a good time to see progress on the latest addition here. We hope that you will be able to try some of Jason’s Organic burgers, which are just the best you have ever tasted, there will be a small charge for the Burgers.

Recipe Ideas

As in previous years we will have arrange of recipe ideas for you to take home and try.

We are still working on the recipes and testing the various options is just very hard work, but someone has to do it.
